Kildonan School/Teacher Training Institute
Orton-Gillingham Training – Associate Level. This is a 70 hour course offered on The Kildonan School campus in Amenia, New York; an AOGPE Accredited Training Site. This ten day program covers all the basic curricular components designed to transfer to a 1:1 or small group setting. The comprehensive training focuses on the multisensory principles of teaching as well as current research-based language instruction designed to integrate reading with spelling and writing. The class content includes phonological awareness, the history and structure of the English language, phonology, syllable types and division patterns, introduction to morphology, spelling rules and generalizations, and the neurological underpinnings of dyslexia. Trainees further gain practice interpreting testing, and planning/delivering individualized diagnostic and prescriptive lessons. Room and board is available at an additional cost fee of $750. A 100 hour practicum follows and can be arranged upon request.
