The Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach is the underlying foundation of all multisensory structured language instruction. You will learn both the structure of the English language and how to teach it sequentially and systemically to struggling readers including students with dyslexia. This course meets the requirements for the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators Associate Level certification. The course will also cover how to:

  • design and teach an OG lesson
  • administer a diagnostic assessment to inform OG instruction
  • understand the reading brain and dyslexia
  • teach systematic phonics, including phonemic awareness training
  • teach syllable types and syllable division patterns
  • teach morphemes (including Latin and Greek) within an OG lesson
  • write a decodable text
  • use a comprehensive scope and sequence for teaching the Orton-Gillingham Approach for students K-12
