Therapeutic Language Consulting at Horizon Academy

Orton-Gillingham Training – Associate Level A. This 60 hour course covers all the basic curricular components designed to transfer to a 1:1 teaching. The comprehensive training focuses on the multisensory principles of teaching as well as current research-based language instruction designed to integrate reading with spelling and writing. The class content includes phonological awareness, the history, and structure of the English language, phonology, syllable types and division patterns, introduction to morphology, spelling rules, and generalizations, and the neurological underpinnings of dyslexia. Trainees further gain practice interpreting testing, and planning/delivering individualized diagnostic and prescriptive lessons.

Practicum: 100 hours supervised practicum teaching 1-1 (Option A) once the coursework is completed. 10 video observations must be sent, along with completed lesson plan and all student work to training Fellow to view and respond. Follow-up meetings are scheduled to discuss video lessons.
